ドイツのプロサッカーリーグ：ブンデスリーガの公式サイト選手名鑑（男子）によると、1部には9人、2部には10人の日本人選手が所属しています（含む二重国籍者3名）。1部6位のフランクフルト長谷部誠選手（40歳）は今季限りで引退しますが、それでもドイツは海外で最も多くの日本人選手を抱える国となっています。奥寺康彦選手が1977年にケルンでプレーを始め、中心選手として大活躍したことにより、日本人選手のドイツでの活躍の道が切り開かれたとされています。
ブンデスリーガに日本人選手が多い理由としてよく挙げられるのは以下3点です：
①ブンデスリーガのプレースタイルが日本人選手に合っている（個人のテクニックよりチームプレーが重視される、小柄な日本人選手でもスピードやテクニックがあれば活躍しやすいなど）。
②外国人枠がなく、EU外の選手でも労働許可証が取得しやすい（日本人に限らず、多くの外国人選手がプレーしやすい環境が整っている）。
③ドイツの気候や生活環境が日本人に合っている（特にデュッセルドルフには大きな日本人コミュニティがある）。
3人の日本人選手（田中碧、アペルカンプ真大、内野貴史）を擁する2部3位のフォルトゥナ・デュッセルドルフは、浅野琢磨選手が所属する1部16位のボーフムを相手に入れ替え戦を闘うことになりました（5月23/27日20：30～、共にSAT1で無料放送）。デュッセルドルフの旧市街に住む私としては、当然地元チームを応援するわけですが、結果にかかわらず、出場する日本人選手の活躍を大いに期待したいと思います。

According to the official website of the Bundesliga, Germany's professional football league, there are nine Japanese players in the first division and ten in the second division (including three with dual nationality). Germany has the largest number of Japanese players abroad, even after Makoto Hasebe (40) of Eintracht Frankfurt (6th in Division 1) retires at the end of this season. Yasuhiko Okudera started playing for Cologne in 1977 and his success as a key player is credited with paving the way for Japanese players to play in Germany.
The following three points are often cited as reasons why there are so many Japanese players in the Bundesliga:
(1) The Bundesliga's style of play suits Japanese players (team play is more important than individual technique, and even small Japanese players have a good chance to play an active role if they have speed and technique).
(2) There are no quotas for foreigners, and work permits are easy to obtain even for non-EU players (the environment is conducive to many foreign players, not just Japanese).
(3) The climate and living environment in Germany is suitable for Japanese (there is a large Japanese community in Düsseldorf in particular).
Fortuna Düsseldorf, 3rd in Division 2 with three Japanese players (Ao Tanaka, Shinta Appelkamp and Takashi Uchino), will play the relegation play-off against Bochum, 16th in Division 1 with Takuma Asano on 23/27 May from 20:30 (both free on SAT1). As a resident of the old town of Düsseldorf, I will of course be rooting for my local team, but regardless of the outcome, I am looking forward to seeing the Japanese players in action.

Laut der offiziellen Website der deutschen Fußball-Bundesliga gibt es in der ersten Liga neun und in der zweiten Liga zehn japanische Spieler (darunter drei mit doppelter Staatsangehörigkeit). Deutschland hat die meisten japanischen Spieler im Ausland, auch nachdem Makoto Hasebe (40) von Eintracht Frankfurt (6. der 1. Liga) am Ende dieser Saison in den Ruhestand geht. Yasuhiko Okudera spielte ab 1977 für Köln und gilt als erfolgreicher Schlüsselspieler, der japanischen Spielern den Weg nach Deutschland ebnete.
Die folgenden drei Punkte werden häufig als Gründe dafür angeführt, dass es so viele japanische Spieler in der Bundesliga gibt:
(1) Der Spielstil der Bundesliga kommt japanischen Spielern entgegen (Mannschaftsspiel ist wichtiger als individuelle Technik, und auch kleine japanische Spieler haben eine gute Chance, eine aktive Rolle zu spielen, wenn sie über Schnelligkeit und Technik verfügen).
(2) Es gibt keine Quoten für Ausländer, und eine Arbeitserlaubnis ist auch für Nicht-EU-Spieler leicht zu erhalten (das Umfeld ist für viele ausländische Spieler günstig, nicht nur für japanische).
(3) Das Klima und das Lebensumfeld in Deutschland sind für Japaner geeignet (insbesondere in Düsseldorf gibt es eine große japanische Gemeinde).
Fortuna Düsseldorf, 3. der 2. Liga mit drei japanischen Spielern (Ao Tanaka, Shinta Appelkamp und Takashi Uchino), spielt am 23. und 27. Mai ab 20.30 Uhr (beide kostenlos auf SAT1) das Relegationsspiel gegen Bochum, 16. der 1. Liga. Als Bewohner der Düsseldorfer Altstadt werde ich natürlich meine Heimatmannschaft anfeuern, aber unabhängig vom Ausgang des Spiels freue ich mich darauf, die japanischen Spieler in Aktion zu sehen.
