まもなくドイツ各地でクリスマス市が始まりますが、毎年その屋台などの設営現場を見かける頃に、職業柄、来る年のリスクに想いを馳せることにしています。「The World Ahead in 2024」と題された今週号の英エコノミスト誌によると、2024年には米国大統領選挙を筆頭に、70か国（42億人）以上で国政選挙が予定されており、過去最大の選挙イヤーとなる模様です。まさに民主主義の真価が問われる年になりそうです。
日本とドイツにとって重要と思われるのは、来年1月の台湾総統選、3月のロシア大統領選、6月の欧州議会選、9月の東独3州（ザクセン、チューリンゲン、ブランデンブルク）の州議会選（極右AfDが第一党となる可能性大）と自民党総裁選（日本の首相が事実上決まる）、そして11月の米大統領選（トランプ再選の可能性が結構高い）といったあたりでしょう。
もともと全ての選挙がfreeでfairとは言い切れない上に、AIを活用したフェイクニュースや世論操作がますます横行しそうなので、選挙の行方にはかなりの危うさを感じます。私としては日本経済の本格回復、過度の低金利/円安の修正、一段の株価上昇などを来年の目玉として大いに期待しているのですが、その前に、世界全体が間違った方向に行ってしまわないことが非常に重要です。
私たち自身の情報リテラシーが問われています。にわかに信じがたいニュースを目にしたときは、そのまますぐに真に受けず、安易に拡散せず、他の角度からも分析した続報を待ってから自分なりの消化/判断に進む、という基本動作が大事だと思います。幸いドイツのメディアの信頼性は高く、分析も多面的なので、私自身毎日大変勉強させてもらっています。その一部は私のこちらのブログにご紹介していますので、もしよろしければ（半分私の生存確認として）ご覧頂ければと思います。英語やドイツ語へのWEB翻訳後でも、ビジネス雑談ネタなどとしてまあまあ使えるのではないかと思っています。

Christmas markets will soon begin here and there in Germany, and every year when I see the stalls and other set-up sites, I think about the risks of the coming year due to my profession. According to this week's issue of The Economist, titled "The World Ahead in 2024," 2024 will be the biggest election year on record, with national elections scheduled in more than 70 countries (4.2 billion people), led by the U.S. presidential election. It will be a year in which the true value of democracy will be tested.
Of particular importance for Japan and Germany are the presidential election in Taiwan in January, the presidential election in Russia in March, the European Parliament election in June, the state parliamentary elections in the three East German states of Saxony, Thuringia, and Brandenburg in September (where the far-right AfD is likely to be the leading party) and the LDP presidential election (which will effectively decide the Japanese prime minister), and the The U.S. presidential election in November (Trump's reelection is a real possibility).
I feel that the future of the elections is quite uncertain, since not all elections are free and fair to begin with, and AI-based fake news and manipulation of public opinion are likely to become more and more rampant. As for me, I am very much looking forward to a full-fledged recovery of the Japanese economy, a correction of the excessively low interest rates/weak yen, and a further rise in stock prices as the main features of next year, but before that, it is very important that the entire world does not go in the wrong direction.
Our own information literacy is being questioned. When we see news that is hard to believe, it is important not to take it seriously right away, not to spread it easily, and to wait for follow-up reports that analyze the situation from other angles before proceeding with our own digestion and judgment. Fortunately, the German media is very reliable and their analysis is multifaceted, so I myself learn a great deal every day. Some of them are posted on my blog here, if you would like to take a look (half as a confirmation of my survival). Even after web translation into English and German, I think it can be used for business chit-chat and the like.

Bald beginnen hier und da in Deutschland die Weihnachtsmärkte, und jedes Jahr, wenn ich die Buden und andere Aufbauten sehe, denke ich an die Risiken des kommenden Jahres, die sich aus meinem Beruf ergeben. Laut der diese Woche erschienenen Ausgabe von The Economist mit dem Titel "The World Ahead in 2024" wird 2024 das größte Wahljahr aller Zeiten sein, mit nationalen Wahlen in mehr als 70 Ländern (4,2 Milliarden Menschen), angeführt von den Präsidentschaftswahlen in den USA. Es wird ein Jahr sein, in dem der wahre Wert der Demokratie getestet werden wird.
Von besonderer Bedeutung für Japan und Deutschland sind die Präsidentschaftswahlen in Taiwan im Januar, die Präsidentschaftswahlen in Russland im März, die Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament im Juni, die Landtagswahlen in den drei ostdeutschen Bundesländern Sachsen, Thüringen und Brandenburg im September (bei denen die rechtsextreme AfD wahrscheinlich die führende Partei sein wird) und die LDP-Präsidentschaftswahlen (bei denen der japanische Premierminister bestimmt wird) sowie die US-Präsidentschaftswahlen im November (Trumps Wiederwahl ist eine reale Möglichkeit).
Meines Erachtens ist die Zukunft der Wahlen ziemlich ungewiss, da nicht alle Wahlen von vornherein frei und fair sind und KI-gestützte Fake News und Manipulationen der öffentlichen Meinung wahrscheinlich immer mehr um sich greifen werden. Was mich betrifft, so erwarte ich für das nächste Jahr vor allem eine vollständige Erholung der japanischen Wirtschaft, eine Korrektur der zu niedrigen Zinsen/des schwachen Yen und einen weiteren Anstieg der Aktienkurse, aber vorher ist es sehr wichtig, dass sich nicht die ganze Welt in eine falsche Richtung bewegt.
Unsere eigene Informationskompetenz wird in Frage gestellt. Wenn wir Nachrichten sehen, die schwer zu glauben sind, ist es wichtig, sie nicht sofort ernst zu nehmen, sie nicht leichtfertig zu verbreiten und auf Folgeberichte zu warten, die die Situation aus anderen Blickwinkeln analysieren, bevor wir mit unserer eigenen Verdauung und Beurteilung fortfahren. Glücklicherweise sind die deutschen Medien sehr zuverlässig und ihre Analysen sind vielschichtig, so dass ich selbst jeden Tag eine Menge lerne. Einige davon sind hier in meinem Blog zu finden, falls Sie einen Blick darauf werfen möchten (halb als Bestätigung meines Überlebens). Selbst nach der Web-Übersetzung ins Englische und Deutsche denke ich, dass es für Geschäftsgespräche und ähnliches genutzt werden kann.
