早いもので今年もちょうど半年が過ぎました。本日2023年7月1日はドイツを代表する株価指数であるDAXの35歳の誕生日でもあります。ちょうど私が社会人生活を始めた年（1988年）にスタートしていますし、こうやって私がドイツでそんなことに思いを巡らせているということにも不思議な縁を感じます。DAXは今週2％／年初来16％上昇し、週末終値で16,147.90と再び過去最高値を更新しようとしています。誕生時から約14倍（日経平均は1.2倍）もの上昇は、ドイツ経済の高い成長力を象徴しています。
今年前半最大の朗報はコロナ終息ということになるのでしょうが、日独関係については、ドイツが中国重視からやや距離を置くようになり、両国間での具体的協力方法について議論するプラットフォームである日独政府間協議が3月にスタートしたことが最も重要なのではないかと思います。加えて、ドイツは深刻なガス不足に陥ることなく昨冬を乗り切ることができましたし、日本は約30年ぶりに4％近くの賃上げを実現し、デフレ脱却に大きく前進することができました。両国とも課題山積（少子高齢化や人手不足は共通）で社会にはいろいろな不満がくすぶり続けているものの、全体としてみればそんなに悪くない今年上半期だったのではないかと思います。
私自身の35年を振り返ると、さすがにDAXのように14倍に成長できたという自信は全くありませんが、最近進歩が著しいデジタル機器類、WEB翻訳、AIツールなどのおかげで、特に情報収集・分析が効率的にこなせるようになりました。きれいなコピーを取るのに必死になっていた35年前の新人時代の私には想像もできなかった成長です。人類の危機対応能力についても、コロナ克服を通じてその底力が証明されました。今後はヘルスケアだけでなく、世界平和の実現、貧困克服、気候変動対策などでの底力発揮に期待したいと思います。

Exactly six months have passed this year. Today, July 1, 2023, is also the 35th birthday of DAX, Germany's leading stock price index. The DAX has risen 2% this week and 16% since the beginning of the year, and closed the weekend at 16,147.90, close to the all-time high again. The increase of about 14 times since its birth (1.2 times for the Nikkei 225) is symbolic of the high growth potential of the German economy.
The most positive news in the first half of this year may be the end of the Corona, but the most important thing about the German-Japanese relationship is that Germany has somewhat distanced itself from China, and the German-Japanese intergovernmental talks, a platform for discussing concrete ways of cooperation between the two countries, started in March. In addition, Germany was able to get through last winter without suffering a serious gas shortage, and Japan was able to make significant progress in overcoming deflation by raising wages by nearly 4% for the first time in about 30 years. Although both countries continue to face a mountain of challenges (a declining birthrate, aging population, and labor shortages are common to both countries), and there are still many dissatisfactions among citizens, I think that overall, the first half of this year was not so bad.
Looking back over the past 35 years, I am not at all confident that I have been able to grow by 14 times like DAX, but thanks to the recent advances in digital devices, web translation, and AI tools, I have been able to gather and analyze information much more efficiently. I could not have imagined this growth 35 years ago when I was a newcomer, when I was struggling to make a clean copy. The ability of the human race to respond to crises has also been proven through the overcoming of the Corona. In the future, I hope humanity will be able to show remarkable resilience not only in health care, but also in the realization of world peace, overcoming poverty, and countermeasures against climate change etc.

In diesem Jahr sind genau sechs Monate vergangen. Heute, am 1. Juli 2023, ist auch der 35. Geburtstag des deutschen Leitindex DAX. Der DAX ist in dieser Woche um 2 % und seit Jahresbeginn um 16 % gestiegen und schloss am Wochenende mit 16.147,90 Punkten wieder in der Nähe des Allzeithochs. Der Anstieg um das 14-fache seit seiner Geburt (1,2-fach für den Nikkei 225) ist ein Symbol für das hohe Wachstumspotenzial der deutschen Wirtschaft.
Die positivste Nachricht in der ersten Hälfte dieses Jahres mag das Ende der Corona sein, aber das Wichtigste in den deutsch-japanischen Beziehungen ist, dass sich Deutschland etwas von China distanziert hat und dass die deutsch-japanischen Regierungsgespräche, eine Plattform zur Erörterung konkreter Möglichkeiten der Zusammenarbeit zwischen den beiden Ländern, im März begonnen haben. Darüber hinaus konnte Deutschland den letzten Winter ohne ernsthafte Gasknappheit überstehen, und Japan konnte bei der Überwindung der Deflation erhebliche Fortschritte erzielen, indem es zum ersten Mal seit etwa 30 Jahren die Löhne um fast 4 % erhöhte. Wenn ich auf die letzten 35 Jahre zurückblicke, bin ich keineswegs davon überzeugt, dass ich in der Lage war, 14-fach zu wachsen wie DAX, aber dank der jüngsten Fortschritte bei digitalen Geräten, Web-Übersetzung und KI-Tools konnte ich Informationen viel effizienter sammeln und analysieren. Ich hätte mir dieses Wachstum vor 35 Jahren nicht vorstellen können, als ich noch ein Neuling war und mich bemühte, eine saubere Kopie zu erstellen. Die Fähigkeit der Menschheit, auf Krisen zu reagieren, hat sich auch bei der Überwindung der Corona gezeigt. Ich hoffe, dass die Menschheit in Zukunft nicht nur im Gesundheitswesen, sondern auch bei der Verwirklichung des Weltfriedens, der Überwindung der Armut, der Bekämpfung des Klimawandels usw. eine bemerkenswerte Widerstandsfähigkeit an den Tag legen kann.
